Our Favorite Landscaping Projects We’ve Transformed Around Flagstaff This Year

Finished Flagstaff landscaping project showing new dog park with pea gravel, seeded lawn, and equipment at The Grove.

From rocky residential backyards to large-scale commercial spaces, we’ve been busy transforming landscapes across Flagstaff this year. Every project brings its own set of challenges—whether it’s fixing irrigation, building retaining walls, or creating dog-friendly public spaces—and we love turning each one into something beautiful and functional.

Here are a few of our favorite Flagstaff landscaping transformations from 2025 so far.

Kachina Backyard + Front Yard Overhaul

When our customer in Kachina first called us, her yard was a bit of a moonscape with dusty, rocky land

In the front yard, we brought in fresh topsoil, reworked her irrigation system to fix leaks, and installed a clean layout with gravel beds and lush sod. What used to be a dull, neglected space is now the kind of yard you actually want to pull into at the end of the day.

In the backyard, we went big:

  • Built a sturdy retaining wall to level out the terrain
  • Hauled in over 101,000 pounds of topsoil
  • Trenched and installed two new irrigation zones
  • Installed fresh-cut sod to pull the whole space together
  • Moved and repurposed her existing oversized pavers to create a beautiful, walkable pathway
  • Added rip rap to hold back a slope and protect the new layout from erosion

Today, it looks like a completely different property—and one that works with the land, not against it.

The Grove Apartments Dog Park Buildout

This one was just plain fun. The Grove, a large apartment complex in Flagstaff, needed a full dog park renovation—something safe, clean, and enjoyable for both pets and residents.

We started by regrading the entire space for drainage and usability. Then came the transformation:

  • Installed rip rap and a drainage swale (a dry creek bed designed to channel stormwater)
  • Laid out dog-friendly pea gravel for traction and cleanliness
  • Brought in dog park equipment and built out play zones
  • Reworked the entire irrigation system for better coverage and no more leaks.
  • Overseeded the main grass area to create a low-maintenance dog lawn
  • Added poop bag dispensers and afire hydrant for some playful personality

Now it’s a fully functional, Flagstaff-friendly space where dogs can run, play, and roll in real grass—and the complex has a new selling point for residents with pets.

One-Day Sod Install in the Banana Belt

Some jobs just flow perfectly, and this one was a quick hit we loved. A homeowner in the Flagstaff Banana Belt called us for a one-day front yard refresh. The goal: turn a patchy, neglected lawn into something soft, clean, and ready to enjoy.

We brought in fresh sod, tilled, fertilized, overseeded, and rolled in a single day. With proper prep and clean lines, the space was instantly revived—like rolling out a green carpet.

University Heights Xeriscape Refresh

This customer had a massive weed problem—the kind that takes over your whole yard and makes it unusable. They’d tried tackling it themselves, but it was time to reset.

So we did it fast and right:

  • Ripped out the overgrowth
  • Re-graded and leveled the surface
  • Re-set his old pavers into a clean, safe, durable layout
  • Installed a commercial weed barrier
  • Filled in the whole space with fresh gravel for a clean, xeriscaped finish—all in a single day

What used to be an eyesore is now a no-maintenance, stylish back yard that actually adds value to the property.

From Start to Finish, It’s About Skill and Communication

What makes a yard transformation successful isn’t just the materials—it’s the care, precision, and experience behind every step.

At Ponderosa Pathways, we pride ourselves on doing it right the first time. Every yard we work on gets a custom plan, tailored to the layout, goals, and needs of that specific property. We don’t do copy-and-paste jobs—we listen to what you want and build a solution that fits your lifestyle and your land.

From the moment you reach out, you’ll get access to a private customer portal where you can view quotes, approve changes, see project updates, and stay fully in the loop. We keep communication clear, professional, and responsive—because when you’re trusting someone with your home, you deserve to know exactly what’s happening and when.

We treat your yard like it’s our own—carefully planned, cleanly executed, and built to last.
